Purpose of the Advocacy & Community Outreach Program:
To empower and strengthen vulnerable and marginalized individuals and groups who face barriers in accessing services
To help effect change that will improve life conditions in our community.
Who the program is intended to help:
Individuals, families, and organizations that are struggling to access services related to:
immigration
refugee status
disabilities
living on low income
What benefits will the program bring to participants:
Advocacy can help:
Address stressor that impact on the individual and families ability for optimal social health and functioning
Link individuals and families to appropriate services and programs
Address systemic issues affecting our community, through participation in community planning and coordination activities.
Description of the program:
The Advocacy Worker is available to meet with individuals or representatives of organizations to help identify specific needs and develop the best course of action.
Services include:
Information and referrals
Information sessions & presentations to the public
Outreach to vulnerable and marginalized groups who face barriers when accessing services
Participation in community planning and coordination activities
Assistance, consultation, training and support to community groups and organizations
Cost: Services for this program are free to residents of the City of Ottawa. Language interpretation and sign language interpretation available upon request
